***Get Your Tickets Here***
Infected Mushroom is one of those groups that we never take for granted every year. For the last three years, they have amazed us with one of THE BEST live performances in music. From their stunning 3D mapping visuals of “The Dueling Death Stars” to their custom controllers, Duvdev and Erez always bring on their A-game. We’re beyond stoked to have them here again this Friday with a full band.

Their latest EP, Converting Vegetarians II out on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, sticks to the bizarre medley of sounds that only Infected Mushroom can create, and completely own. Listen to it here, and let it take you through the rabbit hole, into another world.

Let’s get weird. Check out our interview with Duvdev and Erez:

Bassnectar Lollapalooza 2015

Ethereal as always, and bass heavy – one of our favorites, Bassnectar does it time and again. Dropping Childish Gambino in the beginning of this video, then moving onto his gold “Into the Sun”, and then to heavy metal – Slayer/Pantera?!? This set is just straight ROWDY!

Ratatat, ‘Magnifique’ [FULL ALBUM]

Featured on NPR, Ratatat’s new album is where it’s at. Summer vibes flowing through these tracks. Full Album: BUY HERE“So much of Ratatat‘s appeal lies in what it doesn’t do: On the band’s fifth album, Brooklynites Mike Stroud and Evan Mast built sleek, propulsive instrumentals using a spare palette of guitars, synthesizers and simple percussion in such a way that the music sounds both triumphant and understated. These are rock instrumentals that needn’t overcompensate for their lack of words; they don’t strain to be heard or scramble to stand out, but instead convey coolness that seems effortless.

What Magnifique — Ratatat’s first album since the more experimental LP4 five summers ago — lacks in showy flamboyance or wholly surprising sounds, it possesses in breezy smoothness that proves versatile. The first single, “Cream On Chrome,” has the most overt zippiness to it, but even it never works up a sweat or wastes a breath. When Ratatat kicks up a few ’80s-style hard-rock guitar solos in “Pricks Of Brightness,” they function as some of the most easygoing heroics you’ll ever hear.

Elsewhere on Magnifique, the duo’s instrumentals seem suited to accompany mixed drinks at a beachside restaurant: At several points in “Drift,” Ratatat calms down enough to emit a noise that closely resembles a cat’s purr, while “Supreme” sways softly such that it attracts a chirping bird. If Magnifique unfolds like a snappy summer movie, “I Will Return” is there at the end to burble euphorically over the closing credits, even going so far as to promise a sequel right in its title. Here’s hoping so.” – NPR

Top 10 Gnarliest DJ/Producer Masks

10. 2 Faced Funks

Up and coming Dutch Duo say:  “We had been DJing as a duo for quite a while, when we decided to throw a special birthday party for one of us.  We bought some cheap, pink masks and advertised with the fact that we managed to book 2 world-famous DJ’s.  That night sold out completely, with 1500 people dancing to our set.  That was the moment we decided to take the 2 Faced Funks project to the next level.  And it works!  We’ve had several masks in the meantime, but really wanted to cut loose from the alien-image some people had of us.  So we emailed Rogier Samuels (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit) and he worked on a more friendly-looking, gentlemen type of mask.”

9. Slow Magic

A fox, a zebra, a cat, Slow Magic’s songs bring out moments of bliss that drive an ethereal imagination. He says: “before I even had the mask I wanted it to be music by your imaginary friend and I was posting my music online just as anonymous. People wanted me to make shows and I wanted to make a mask that, kind of, could be the thing people look at. So, I had a friend of mine design a mask of an imaginary animal. It’s a mix of a lot of things. A zebra, fox, cat, anything you sort of wanted it to be. Sort of how I think I am and the music is; I want it to be owned by the person who listens to it.”

8. The Bloody Beetroots

Some say a venom mask while others a luchador, Sir Bob Cornelius, a Italian producer wears this as “a declaration of ominous anonymity that defers the spotlight to his long list of productions, projects, films, art, manifestos and musical incarnations emanating from his Bloody Beetroots production epicenter.”

7.  DJs From Mars

Italian Duo take a household item and turn it into a DIY project on steroids. With the glowing eyes, the devious smiles, they say:  “It was from one of our first videos called “Who Gives a F**k about Deejays”…. a boxhead man was the main character of the video concept…when we started doing our first gigs we tried this weird idea, and it worked immediately!  Everyone wanted to take pictures with us, everyone wanted to stay in the front of the two boxhead weirdos, it was very different from usual DJ sets when everyone dances like no one’s spinning….so we kept it going on.”

6. Black Tiger Sex Machine

Canadian trio in the Tiger masks throw a wild party with their part dj and part live set. “We were looking around and we wanted to keep this dark minimal…more like German or European way of doing things mixed with the big live shows that are created in North America, so we were trying to find the right mix between both worlds. I was thinking helmets”

5. Myndset

A cross between Iron Man and Darth Vader, fully equipped with LEDs and a ventilation fan, Myndset hails from LA and throws down heavy beats. The dude keeps it real by letting us know: “The significance of the mask was simply to separate myself from a previous DJ persona I went by and start a new side project. I also wanted something that would capture peoples attention.”

4. Squarepusher

Futuristic without a doubt, Squarepusher’s new age mask jives with the stage backdrop during a glitchy, techy and visually mesmerizing performance. Down to earth, he says: “I’m trying to make myself a way of displaying images, rather than be an image myself…The mask allows me a different visual space; the images can be delivered in a two-part form. There’s the element that’s show on the mask, and the element that’s shown on the screen behind me. That offers quite a bit of potential. You can have a kind of polyrhythmic visual approach, by bouncing the images between screens. There is definitely rhythmic potential for counterpoint between sound and image.”

3. Cazzette

The Swedish Duo has captured a wide audience with this retro yet futuristic design in the age of mp3s and digital media. A portion of the mask lights up to display texts to the audience! “That was Ash – he came up with it.  It was really inspired by Daft Punk, of course.  The cassette is pretty cool as a theme.  It’s not like our production is very big right now, but we hope to build it up in time.  That’s what’s cool about Cazzette as a name – you can take it and build things around it.  The heads are just the beginning.  We don’t wear them the whole time – just for 30 minutes out of an hour-long show. They get heavy, and they make it hard to breathe.  You can get pretty dizzy after a while. Seeing can be a problem, too: I can’t wear my glasses under the mask, so I’m blinded a little bit.  But you know, it’s part of the show.”

2. Daft Punk

Perhaps considered the pioneers of revolutionizing electronic music and becoming a symbol through their songs and LED helmets, Daft Punk are iconic and evergreen. With helmets possibly ranging around $65K-$70K, they say: “We’re interested in the line between fiction and reality, creating these fictional personas that exist in real life…We’re not performers, we’re not models – it would not be enjoyable for humanity to see our features…but the robots are exciting to people.”

1. Deadmau5

A brand, a logo, a symbol, the Mau5head might be THE most recognizable and marketable product in EDM. In 2011, Deadmau5 actually held a fan contest to come up with the new Mau5head design, and the infamous cheesehead mau5 was born.  Although his name comes from an actual dead mouse that he found in his computer, the helmet was his original idea that he designed used 3D modeling software. The versatility of this helmet, and the sheer popularity puts Joel at our number one spot.

If there’s one producer that we can expect to wow us with unexpected takes on music, it’s Lorin Ashton. Known to non-BassHeads as Bassnectar, Ashton is back with an epic new 15-track LP, “Noise vs. Beauty.” A fitting title for the work of someone who seems to effortlessly blend calming atmospheric melodies with hard-hitting bass, as seen immediately in the first track “F.U.N” (<–Spongebob Reference?) The progression through the LP is truly remarkable, the second track is another one of our favorites, starting out with a frenzy of noise, transitioning to slow, smooth vocals, and getting our heart rate back up and our heads banging. By the third song, “Loco Ono” Bassnectar knows exactly what you’re thinking, the lyrics appropriately start off the song “Let the music take control, turn in up and LET IT GO!!!”

We weren’t huge fans of the vocals for the 4th track, but the next one, “Lost in the Crowd” is going to be an instant hit. Combining some great hip-hop, with an infectious riff, the song instantly reminded us of the hit, “Vava Voom.” Right when you need a break, “Ephemeral” lets you ease off a little bit, and creates a galactic traveling atmosphere. But don’t let us tell you how the LP should make you feel, experience it yourself below!!! As always, one of the most refreshing takes on “EDM” music, and always progressive.  Buy the album on where you can find out a lot more of the behind-the-scenes work and collaborations. Plus check out his Twitter feed to see the insights he’s shared with fans!

Aliens unite! After advertising the IOS/Android game “Alien Ride” (seemingly, a mock up of the classic Atari game Asteroids), the dubstep Grammy winning producer, Skrillex had a mystery “Secret” no-access folder installed in the game. Well the wait is OVER and the secret is out! The folder features Skrillex’s new album “Recess” – a full stream available for only a limited time (in the game, but we gotchu covered!), pre-order the album on iTunes. On our first listen, the album seems to feature Skrill’s traditional gnarly drops and wubs, but with added samples of distorted vocals and mixing of some dope drum patterns. We hear various upbeat unique elements of trap, electro, reggae, hip hop, rap, of course dub, all of which warrant the album to be played AT MAX VOLUME! With collaborations with Diplo, Chance The Rapper, Alvin Risk, Ragga Twins, Fatman Scoop, and Kill The Noise, it’s safe to say that after Bangarang (Skrillex’s last album in 2011), this was well worth the wait!

Adventure Club, the duo with the power of melodic dubstep, showcase their skills in this song “Thunderclap”. What is a “Thunderclap”, you may ask? Sheer big room electrohouse harmonic bass dubstep power with drops that will electrify your day. Seems like it could be used for the next Thor movie’s fight scene. We know how dreadful Mondays are, but this song features a gnarly melody that really seems to define the song and fix our Monday sadness. The poppy yet hard rock vibe that is heard is powerful and thunderous. The Canadian duo never seize to impress us with their massive talent, and this song is doing just that.

New Bassnectar will “Take You Down”!

Bassnectar, aka Lorin, is one of our personal favorite producers due to his high energy live shows and of course his unique abilities to capture you with every emotion through his productions.  And, straight from the Bassnectar labs, “Take You Down” does just that. Inspiring you for his upcoming Immersive Music Tour, which kicks off in Oakland, CA in just two weeks, this sneak peek features some heavy 808s that kick off a galactic yet very polished and electric sound. A follow up to “Timestretch”, this is what Lorin had to say about the song:

“Take You Down” was put together as a summertime jam… something deep and lush and euphoric. I started it while I was on vacation, and the general theme is basically falling in love and that slow-motion feeling you get when you plunge backwards into something overwhelming, but never hit the ground.

Summer might be over, but we definitely get that nostalgic feeling through this song with those beating chords and the gnarly synths. Set to be released on Sept 24, we can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album holds! Enjoy this one:

We’ve talked about “Mat Zo” and “swindling” before when his song was stolen by Put the word pyramid in front of scheme, and now you’re looking at life imprisonment. Pyramid schemes normally destroy lives, but Mat Zo is looking to change the image of the pyramid scheme with his brand new single. They bouncy and upbeat song is has one of the cleanest drops we’ve heard in a while that’ll make you go nuts. Listen in:
